Week 1

Boy I suck at identifying book covers.  It's like - I know that one, but what the heck is it?!   I did ok-ish on assignment 2. For assignment 4 I chose "NPR books", because I used to work there and "Stop, You're Killing Me" because I read cozy mysteries and would like to read some with a little more meat to them.

  1. Because Sharyn likes cozy mysteries, I'm suggesting that she read The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie: A Flavia de Luce Mystery. This book is the first of a series set in a sleepy English village in the early 1950s and features 11-year-old protagonist Flavia. This book is darkly humorous, suspenseful and filled with intriguing characters.
My other suggestion is another cozy English mystery series, this one by Suzette A. Hill. The first book is Bones in the Belfry, featuring Francis Oughterard, the 30-something vicar of the village of Molehill who accidentally strangles an annoying lady parishioner. Alternate chapters are in the voice of the vicar's dog and cat, who often come to the aid of the bumbling vicar. This dark comedy is humorous and slightly suspenseful, as the vicar solves mysteries while becoming more and more entangled with his unsavory former schoolmates.
